Mitchell (18-4-3) at Sunlake (27-0)
WHEN/WHERE: Today, 7 p.m./3023 Sunlake Blvd., Land O' Lakes
OUTLOOK: The Mustangs will look to rebound after losing to River Ridge in the district finals in overtime last week. Mitchell and coach Oscar Ubillus will be looking for more offense, especially from leading scorers Nathaniel Hayes (11 goals) and Lewis Pepper (10 goals). Mitchell had posted four straight shutouts before losing to the Royal Knights 2-1 in the Class 3A-District 8 final. The Seahawks are on an improbable and historical run, especially with senior forward Connor Gilboy and his 60 goals, the most in a season by a boys soccer player in Pasco County history. Gilboy is also just nine shy of the state record. Sunlake is also led by Connor Spencer, who leads the county in assists and has 34 goals. Keep an eye on freshman keeper Daniel Hrenko (20 shutouts), who is as solid as they come when challenged in net.
Pasco (12-6-1) at River Ridge (10-6-5)
WHEN/WHERE: Today, 7 p.m./11646 Town Center Rd., New Port Richey
OUTLOOK: The Pirates return to the region tournament following a three-year drought. They bring speed, elusiveness, physical play and a solid defense that held usually high-scoring Sunlake to just two goals in the Class 3A-District 7 final. Pasco is led by players such as Michael Mazza and Angel Garcia, plus Jose Flores, who had a hat trick against Land O' Lakes in the teams' district semifinal. The Royal Knights are back in the region tournament after an overtime victory against rival Mitchell thanks to a game-winning goal by junior Nick Schroder. He and Justin DaSilva have been leading the way offensively for River Ridge. Royal Knights goalkeeper Tyler Manaras had 13 saves in the district final.
