ZEPHYRHILLS — A San Antonio man is suspected of stealing two vehicles, $2,800 in loose diamonds, numerous firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition before being arrested in one of the stolen vehicles Thursday, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.
James David Weed, 23, of 29435 Schinnocock Hills Lane, San Antonio, was arrested in a stolen Dodge Ram pickup Thursday afternoon at Allen Road and Tucker Road in Zephyrhills, records show. Investigators believe that Weed committed a series of burglaries from May 2 to May 5 in the Lake Bernadette subdivision off State Road 54 in Zephyrhills and the New River Township subdivision off S.R. 54 in Wesley Chapel.
Weed faces numerous charges related to grand theft and armed burglary of an automobile, sheriff’s records show.
Over his suspected four-day spree, Weed is accused of stealing from unlocked vehicles: a Sig Saur 9 mm handgun; a Remington 12-gauge shotgun; a 40-caliber shotgun; a pair of rifles; two ballistics vests with Federal Bureau of Investigation logos; handcuffs; 300 rounds of 40-caliber ammunition; debit and credit cards, an iPhone and other items.
He took the loose diamonds from the center console of an unlocked 2004 Toyota 4 Runner, records show.
According to reports, Weed said that a 1995 Volvo station wagon and 2011 Dodge Ram pickup that he is accused of stealing were also unlocked. Weed said that keys were in the ignition of the Dodge, records show.
Records show that Weed also faces petty theft charges in Hillsborough County. He was being held in the Land O’ Lakes Jail on Monday with bail set at nearly $200,000.
