A Pinellas County man was shot to death and his neighbor is in custody after a longstanding feud boiled over Wednesday in a mobile home park off U.S. 19, deputies said.
Keith Alan Lewandowski, 46, was killed when he stepped in front of a gun that a neighbor had pointed at his wife, Sandra, said Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said Lewandowski's neighbor, 47-year-old Bruce K. Schunk, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
Deputies were called at 12:30 p.m. to the Riviera Estates mobile home park, 29141 U.S. 19 N., Clearwater, which is just north of State Road 580.
Deputies had been called to the neighbor's home several times because of a history of trouble involving the suspect and other neighbors, including Lewandowski, Gualtieri said. The last time they were at the home was six months ago, he said.
The neighbor barged into Lewandowski's home Wednesday saying he was not going to take it anymore, Gualtieri said. Lewandowski's wife told him to get out or she was going to call 911, Gualtieri said.
The neighbor pointed the gun at the woman and Lewandowski ran between them, Gualtieri said. The neighbor shot and killed Lewandowski, he said.
No one else was hurt, deputies said.
The neighbor then ran home and briefly refused to come out when deputies arrived, Gualtieri said. When he surrendered to deputies, he was extremely drunk, Gualtieri said.
Deputies recovered the handgun used in the shooting, the sheriff's office said.
