The Tampa Bay Veteran's Alliance will begin honoring U.S. service members with some early Veteran's Day celebrations this week.
Clearwater High School will host the alliance's Veterans' Appreciation Celebration on Saturday, a day after the organization brings the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall to Clearwater's Coachman Park.
The memorial wall will travel through Pinellas County by motorcade on Thursday, with a parade of sheriff's deputies, veterans on motorcycles and military vehicles escorting it through five cities, eventually arriving at its destination in Coachman Park.
The official opening ceremony for the memorial is at noon Friday at the park, with Congressman Bill Young slated to attend, along with local military leaders.
The Veterans' Appreciation Celebration at Clearwater High School will kick off at noon Saturday and include performances from local honor guards, a demonstration by the school's Marine JROTC silent drill team and a public swearing-in of new military recruits.
Both ceremonies are free and open to the public. The Veterans' Alliance is encouraging people to wave flags along the motorcade route on Thursday.
