This is a very bad idea. The principal of the school is not looking out for the best interest of the community, at large. The community will not support him, if he doesn't consider all. There is too much controversy, and my husband and I will not support him and Coleman with any cash donations, if this tower is installed. Shame on him for looking out for his pocketbook and not the health and safety of our kids. Unfortunately, he has made a bad name for himself by pushing this as far as he has. He made a public promise to do what the community wanted, and he has broken this promise. It is time for him to move on to another school, but we will be stuck with this tower for the next 20 years or so.

I do not think the cell tower should be allowed at Coleman Middle School for a variety of reasons. First, it will have a negative impact on property values, it could be dangerous in a hurricane or other structural damage could pose danger to all the surrounding land uses which include all kinds of children (little league, city pool, two schools). Also there are alternative commercial sites that could be used along Dale Mabry or Henderson which are very close. I understand that the health risks of cell towers are not definitive and there are conflicting studies; however, until there is definitive evidence why would we not err on the side of caution when the potential risk is to children who are still in their growth and development stages? If an alternative is available with less risk to children, why would anyone NOT prefer that?

I understand there may be some reported financial gain to the school however, as we have seen with the Florida Lottery funds, State funding for a school may be removed if it generates some other form of income. They could be simply shifting their source of funding without any net benefit to the school.

I think the use of school property to enhance community infrastructure makes sense. Time and time again good communications has been proven essential during times of crisis. During the multiple hurricanes of 2004, when local phone service was out, mobile phones remained in service.

On the health issue; most of the arguments I have seen focus on the handset use. I would be more concerned about having my child holding the handset against their head or trying to drive or ride a bicycle while using it than a cell tower located on the school property.

If we are worried about that hazard then we should take down the flag poles, ball field lights, scoreboards, etc.

As I understand it; this program is directly contracted with the Hillsborough County School Board and revenues go directly to them and not the State of Florida. This to me makes more sense then to allow state level bureaucrats determine who gets the funds.

You know its funny that the very people who oppose this tower will be the first ones raising their voices when they don't have service due to no signal after a hurricane or can't reach their children in the event of a school emergency. How does a cell phone tower on school property effect the surrounding homeowners properties?? If anything it should prove to be an asset as many people in this area can't use their cell phones inside their homes due to poor signals. You people need to be more concerned about the quality of education your kids are receiving. This is a great way to bring much needed money into the school. Let's face it folks cell phones are our primary means of communication today. I for one like to know that I can reach my children at anytime. Thank goodness other areas haven't raised such a stink about cell phone towers or we wouldnt have what service we have now. VOTE YES STAY IN TOUCH.

If the people don't want the cell tower I will be glad to have it in my yard. I could sure use the money.
