Stupid poll. Apparently the only answers are negative. I answered my kids can't find work. But they are only 4 and 6. I can't wait to see the results of this liberal FU.

Sounds like you were living for the now and not the future. I'm sure you are college educated and will land a job. The poll is typical of Liberals who are looking for a desired result based on the questions. Therefore the poll is Slanted. Not a peronal attack on you. Sell your house since you own it outright at a price that will sell quickly and move into an apartment live off your profit until you land a job! Best wishes! just a thought!

gswife: Sorry to hear that. However, a large majority of the population is still employed, and yet the poll has no choices to make that reflect that. The poll, and any results that come from it, is biased. Things aren't ALL negative. Despite all the bad news, there is still some positive news out there. But the biased media tends to report the negative news more aggressively than they do the positive news. As a result, the typical American feels more negative about current events (and our current president) than they should. I was taught in school that the media is SUPPOSED to be neutral when reporting the news. But that doesn't happen.

My husband and I both worked for the same company for over 10 years and were laid off on the same day due to a job elimination/layoff. I think our company did this just to hire younger people for less money. If they get rid of older employees and hire young ones for less money they save payroll dollars and expenses on benefits, pensions, etc.

Well, I was laid off by the Tampa Tribune... so I really don't think they care how it affects people. But I am at a better job now so Media General, Tampa Tribune & Tbo can take their polls and shove it!

Not understanding why this poll is still up even after so many have pointed out how flawed it is. I would also choose "not affected in any way." And no, neither I nor my husband are retired. We are in our early 40's. Neither of our daughters nor any of our friends or family have been affected. It all depends on the industry you work in I think.

I refused to answer. I NEVER bother with obviously biased polls (designed to give the intended results). When I do bother with them, I try to pick the one option they didn't want you to pick (none in this case that I could figure) just to screw with them. Its a worthless poll designed to build up some junk story that will be intended to pass as 'news'.
There was a time when I expected better of the trib -but that was long ago.
As for me, I'm at the same grindstone I have been at for 5 years now, and actually managed to procure a raise! Doubt I'll have one this next time though, but I'm just happy to be employed. In my particular line of work, I'm not particularly worried about being laid off (many other bad things would be happening before that, I expect).
I HAVE suffered that fate in other lines of work, so I know what it feels like -no desire to relive that experience.

It also needs an option for "working but at reduced hours &/or salary" and I had to laugh, S-vet said
"Sell your house since you own it outright at a price that will sell quickly and move into an apartment live off your profit until you land a job!"
but I'm stuck at the idea of living off the profit...WHAT PROFIT? Most ppl owe way more then what homes will sell for :(( If they didn't, they'd be able to just refinance for extra $.

Hey TBO add a selection for "No effect." or your poll is of limited use and reflects bias you may or may not intend.

being a evil employer i must say the poll was very misleading. my son cant find a job but he does work as school bus driver though i dont call that a job. since i am my own employer this recession has not hi hard but in some ways was a bonus. so for 22yrs being self employed has bin a boon. so presidents come and go but i will always be employed. though this one scares me like carter did. so i guess we have to peas in a pod just different decades.

1st off to respond to the republicans yes you should have an option that you were not effected. The fact remains though many more people are effected then not. There are many trust fund babies that live here that really will never have to work. For the ones that do its not pretty. I live in a huge apt complex in S Tampa and numerous people are moving up north every day. Right now my building is near empty. As for my peers most are out of work. The ones that are not work for their parents or family. Remember when people go broke here they don't go homeless, they go back home. Go talk to your local pizza shop and ask them how business is. Also FL is reporting a decline in population for like the first time in history. And a college degree doesn't really mean anything anymore. Look around, a 4 year degree will get you about $9.50 an hour now. :)

To j_kane
The Meshiah said if we pass the massive spending bill after his threats we would not see unemployment above 8%. The last I looked it was already 9.8% in the country and 11.7% in Tampa. He tried to convince other countries during his first international apology tour to spend money as well and they didn't. If you look back now you'll see that our unemployment has risen faster than there's, great job pres. We're just deeper in debt.
Oh, I forgot, the standard BHO line is if you don't have an answer it's Bush's fault.

another choice should be, "I cannot leave my job, because there are no other jobs and my employer know's this so they are going to run every employee physically and mentally into the ground." wheww- might I add then they will put an ad on Craigs List and higher over qualified people for 8.00 an hour. :)

If the poll doesn't have an answer that applies to you then don't take it. Simple as that.
