The economy is in the tank, but that won’t stop Christmas from coming.

Some people save on their holiday spending by giving baked goods to family and friends. It’s inexpensive and popular. Every year, my sister bakes cookies for everyone from the letter carrier to her co-workers. Dressed up with a little colored plastic wrap and some cheap doodads from a craft store, they are really nice.

Another relative pools with others in the family and draws names. Each person is only responsible for one gift that way.

I’m working on a story for the Tribune about what folks are doing this holiday to make it through, and I’m looking for people to interview.

Do you and your family plan to cut back on gift-giving this year—and how? Are you unable to celebrate Christmas at all?

Do you have traditions that are inexpensive and could work for others?

If so, submit your comments below, or contact me at (813) 259-8264 or dkoehn@tampatrib.com
