Aybar does not have the range to play 2B every day! Zobrist is our best option there full time. The Rays probably will not pick up Aki's 4.85 mil option next year, because there are too many other areas to address concerning the budget.Zobrist is,and should be our starting second baseman for the next few years.

Zobrist is a shortstop by trade so the transition is not a difficult one for a young man of his athletecism. Aybar is decent, but is a corner infielder by trade. I agree with archangel99 that Aybar, while a strong fielder, does not have that up-the-middle range of Zobrist.

I dont know why this is even a Question.
Zobrist is a hitting machine right now, Much better the Aki at second base, His bat has proven him a everyday spot, Wake up MADDDON!!

I think Aki will come down on his option and be back with the Rays next year. He is not worth over 4 million and I think he knows it. Rework the deal for more years and keep him, he is worth having on the team.
