This is a no-brainer. Some folks are absolutely convinced that their level of fun is determined by how much misery they can inflict on others. Gasparilla is just their excuse to shed all social restraints and revert to their inner, juvenile selves. It has got to go.

Why oh why did they move the children's parade from downtown to Bayshore. If I lived there I would be mad too. Also, the parade lost it's charm & kid friendliness. It is just another day parade, it is too big & it is not fun. I say put it back downtown & get rid of the 100 floats. Leave the rest as is.

Ban alcohol, I drink but you don't need drinking to this magnitude in public with kids. People won't act so ignorant and they'll show some responsibility....

BBro- I agree. Something needs to be done about the alcohol issue. With all of the homes and private property along the parade route then those people can drink as much as they want on their own property. Alcohol consumption on public properties needs to go bye-bye during the parade. Honestly though how in the world would these different policing agencies have the man power to enforce it? When we have a majority of officers in one part of town that leaves other parts vulnerable to crime. I think some of our surrounding counties need to step up to the plate and lend a hand because some of their citizens travel to Tampa to enjoy the parade. Does that make sense?

At Gasparilla, the tents use to be on the water side, this year I noticed them on the street side. You had to pay in advance to get to the water side (with your own chairs), not many people were on that side. The tents limited the space where people could stand to see the parade so many were just on the street. I think it's better to have the tents on the water side giving a chance for more people to see the parade. You limit the space on the parade route, your going to have more congestion on the streets in front of the homes. I think it was terrible, especially during these times to charge to get to the other side with your own chairs.

Why are we celebrating this event in the first place? Pirates are known to get drunk, pillage, rape women, etc. What kind of message is being sent to the rest of the world by our city? Count my vote on cancelling the whole event! It’s farcical.

I went to the meeting. A handout by the neighborhood highlighted a 2009 cost of $528,000 to the City of Tamap - all of us - for one day. The promoter has a better deal than Glazer (both negotiated with Greco). He gets all proceeds from ticket sales, corporate tents, Pepin beer sales, and something from all the consessioneers. Maybe some of this money could go for the cost of police protection for the neighbors that are subjected to property damage or fear. We also learned that any "taking" by the government(eminent domaine)must accompany compensated by that government entinty. How much money is EventFest making on our investment of $528,000?

Why are we complaining & whining over something that people have fun at? Get ridiculous! Eliminate bead throwing, eliminate the parade? You have got to be kidding me! If anyone is going for that, then why not eliminate every other event in Tampa & then we'll just be a dull, hapless town. Does that mean we shouldn't get the Super Bowl anymore? Does that mean there should be no more Guavaween? Seriously, think about it, I think we have more issues of rape, crime & public drunks at Guavaween than ANYTHING! I mean, come on, be reasonable here. If you have a problem with the parade, just don't show your face down there. Let everyone else still have their fun & do what they love doing. If city staffers want to do the right thing, they will tell all the sob stories to get a life & leave the parade alone.

It is very clear that Batgirl85 does not live or work anywhere near Bayshore Blvd. If she did she would not consider our complaints as whining. I do not live on Bayshore but I do work at a Condominium building on bayshore. The cost of preparing a property is not fair to the people who do live here. We have the extra cost of fencing the property and hiring extra security guards to keep out people who do not belong on private property. Not to mention all the drunk people who try to sneak in to find a restroom and when they don't find one they just drop clothing and urinate out in the open. I think the Parade is a great experience that I have enjoyed bringing my children to for years until the past 2 years. It has just gotten out of control. It is no longer a Tampa Tradition. It is now just another excuse to drink and get drunk in public. So before you go off at the mouth saying people are just complaining and whining, why don't you pay the extra cost, try keeping people off private property or better yet, why don't you clean up after the Parade and then get back to us on how much we are just whining.
