Traffic calming devices are a complete joke. If planners were good at their job then the things wouldn't be needed.

State law prevents people from driving too slow on streets as well. However, then (let's just say dee dee dee's) designed the speed humps, bumps, or whatever you call them, to cause people to drive slower than the law allows. This impairs traffic and can lead to traffic tickets as well. It's a complete waste of resources and time. Put an end to the madness.

Traffic calming should only calm the traffic when there is documented evidence that traffic has threatened lives and safety. Neither has been proved in my opinion as a resident in Carrollwood for over 20 years. IF it is proven to be needed, a traffic hump or table should only be added to slow traffic down to the posted speed limit, not requiring a driver to slow down to 2-5 mph. Original Carrollwood now has far too many "calming" bumps, humps, tables, etc.. installed that it is a virtual parking lot. Traffic planners have gone overboard. We want our tax dollars used for helpful purposes. This clearly is not the case. I have only met one OC resident who is for these calming steps vs. over 70 who are strongly against. The majority needs to rule, not just a few who complained in years past. I want these removed from Carrollwood entirely. ~ David Parsley

The overkill of speed bumps on Lowell and Casey specifically shows me that the area council wanted to blow some money on this year's budget to ensure they would have it in next year's budget and couldn't figure out something better to spend it on. They sure didn't ask me or my neighbors if we wanted speed bumps or improvements elsewhere. We didn't have a traffic problem before the bumps, but we sure have one now.

We'll I think we've succeed to keep people from moving into Cwd area thanks to all these lovely car destroying and time consuming speeding devices that us tax payers had to have but had no say in it. It amazes us on how the co/city can tell you how and what you can do within your community but when they want to do life altering improvements to our community we don't seem to count except for the taxes we pay. I've already had to have car work done due to the amount of speed humps/bumps and the size of the intersection tables that are now falling apart (bricks loose, sinking around the edges). My car is only 2 yrs old and I drive very slow over each one. I also pray that my family or anyone else living around these numerous annoying obstacles will never have to have emergency vehicles called to their house since these will surely slow their response time down. As far as seeing any improvements since all these devices were installed, I still see cars driving very fast in between each device and as they go over them which I feel is even more dangerous especially if they are close to sidewalks and etc, they have a chance of loosing control of their car. We have already had one accident off Lowell right after the first two speed humps were installed last year, the speed humps were not marked so they were hard to see at night, the car that hit that hump went air bound and lost control of his truck and hit the 6 ft fence at Cwood Crossing community. The community was lucky that the fence is what stopped the truck or he would've ended up in someone's house that night, is this the safety you had in mind when you decided to change our community into a obstacle course?
