Older pets show their actual size and personality, usually are housebroken, more likely to understand what no means and come when called, need less supervision, have calmer attitudes, are drawn to serenity, are happy giving companionship and affection and can easily adjust to other pets. 'name': 'Students from Reddick Elementary School, above, had a special opportunity to view an exclusive performance of Cinderella, performed by the Riverview Little Theater Sept. 19. All 570 children rode on 10 busses to Riverview High School to view the extravaganza. It was a heartwarming sight to see all of our students sitting in the theater, like little adults, watching the performance. They studied theater etiquette and knew exactly how to behave, when to clap and even when to do a standing ovation, said Gail Greenmun, a teacher from Reddick. This special performance was arranged by Ellen Kleinschmidt, a music specialist, who played the fairy godmother in the play and Daron Hawkins, director and drama teacher at Riverview High School. All of the players agreed to perform free of charge and generous donations from the Riverview Masons, the Performing Arts Club of Sun City Center and Roger and Virginia Zwieg, the parents of Kleinschmdt, paid for the buses. Bob Heilman, the principal of Riverview, was instrumental in helping Reddicks assistant principal, Yolanda Guerra, get the busses. Heilman played the part of the King. What a dream come true it was for me to be standing on the stage anxiously waiting for the show to begin, knowing that the auditorium was filled with my students. Talking with them about it after the show, I know that Cinderella was an absolutely magical few moments in their lives, Kleinschmidt said. The students curriculum prior to the play was centered on the Cinderella theme. The children read and studied different versions of the fairy tale. J Roth, the principal of Reddick, was pleased with the event. For a while I wasnt sure that we could make this happen. Our students may never have this chance again and we didnt want to miss out on it. And with Mrs. Kleinschmidt performing, it was extra special for everyone. Above, from left, Reddick Elementary students Ashton Spitler, Luz Hernandez, Karrin Hailey and Kyle Williams with Caleb Bone Prince Charming, Brittany Hamilton Cinderella and Ellen Kleinschmidt Fairy Godmother. Eleven students aged 7 years old to 40-something competed in the annual Imperial Dragon Tournament in Lakeland Sept. 20. The academys youngest competitor, Cameron LaSSalle, took home a second place, with his sister, Kiana LaSSalle, earning a third place. Other winners included: Emily Naylor second place Hugh Hickman second place, Logan Barrett second place, Gregory Zappia second place, Sara Subko second place and Jason Huertas first place. Nick Gates, in his first Judo competition, also fought bravely against a very seasoned international competitor from Columbia while Tylor Ferry earned a first place and Tom Barnhardt had a third place finish in the masters division. Head coach and sensei Scott Ferry and assistant coaches Kurt Huertas and Carlos LaSSalle were very pleased with the results of the tournament. Serving as technical officials were Christine Ferry, Tiffany Ferry, Deanna Huertas, Kayla LaSSalle and Nick Cullen. The academy also held its first competition fundraising event Sept. 27 at Courtesy Toyota in Brandon at the Scion Customer Appreciation Event. Pictured washing a car at the event are, from left, Hugh Hickman, Jason Huertas and Nick Gates. Miriam Gates, a salesperson at Courtesy Toyota and mom of academy member Nick Gates, got the ball rolling for the event by suggesting it to her supervisor. The team worked hard and washed cars from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and were gratefully accepting donations that will help offset national competition fees. Three more fundraising events are being planned throughout the year with the proceeds to be distributed to team members who qualify to attend the National Judo events being held around the country in July. Directly after finishing the car wash everyone had to hurry home to get cleaned up to attend the first ever Promotion Night for the academy. Promotions were held at the Big Bend Road Beef OBradys, with everyone crowding together in the coachs meeting room to celebrate the following promotions: Cameron LaSSalle, Kiana LaSSalle, Emily Naylor and Gregory Zappia all earned their yellow belts. Nick Cullen received his orange belt. Logan Barrett earned his green belt, Tiffany Ferry received her blue belt and Jason Huertas earned his purple belt. 'name': 'One of 60, Don Hinderliter said as the Rev. Tracy Wilder started to bless the small black dog Hinderliter cradled in his arms. Like many other pet lovers, Hinderliter, president of Critter Adoption Rescue Effort, Inc. C.A.R.E., Hillsborough Countys no-kill animal shelter in Ruskin, and Elaine Armstrong, a volunteer at C.A.R.E., came to the Blessing of the Animals in Sun City Center Oct. 4. Unity Community of Joy, a spiritual fellowship in Sun City Center, coordinated the event with the pet supply store the Three Legged Poodle Pet Boutique, 715 Imar Drive in Sun City Center, where they offered people an opportunity to have their pets blessed in front of the store. Wilder, rector at St. John The Divine, Episcopal Church, in Ruskin, conducted the blessing. He also did it for the store last year. Besides meeting dogs, cats, iguanas and birds, Wilder said, he once blessed a horse that arrived in a trailer. This time, a fox found its way to the blessing. Debra Kaprive, representing Elmiras Wildlife Sanctuary in Wimauma, came with a small full-grown African Fennec fox. People brought mostly dogs to the blessing. Small dogs outnumbered big dogs, and they asserted their rights. Some told their giant peers with forceful yapping that they were not intimidated by their size. Others pulled their owners to their furry friends, determined to say hello. Lora Pinta of Ruskin, above, took her leashed cat Mr. Roo to the blessing. I walk him every morning on the leash for a half hour. He gets his outdoor exercise, Pinta said. Pinta took in Mr. Roo more than two years ago when neighbors found the 4-month-old kitten. Randolph, a miniature poodle, came to the blessing in a baby stroller pushed by his owner, Dawn Hennen from Sun City Center. He received his blessing sitting in his carriage, without having to get out. Hennen came last year to the blessing with Randolph also. She said, He is 15 years old, he has a heart problem. I thought he could use a little help. Photo from Bruny Hudson',
