It's the American dream but owning a home is something many of us took for granted as children. Either our parents owned the homes we grew up in or we were too young to know the difference.
Today, the market is different and the emerging trend among buyers is to build on their lot and David Weekley Homes is working to fulfill that need.
Its Tampa division has begun a build-on-your-lot program in South Tampa. Although the program is new to this area, Jennifer Cole, marketing director, says it has worked well for the company in Austin, Houston and Dallas.
The program is designed to give buyers more options, she says. David Weekley still will build in communities; however, this will give customers who already own lots more choices.
Plus, through Dec. 31, buyers can go home for the holidays with savings of up to $25,000 on select David Weekley homes in Tampa Bay area communities, Cole says.
Weekley offers two build-on-your-lot designs - the Bordeaux and Doyle - and is looking to add more. The plans are priced from the $300,000s.
The Bordeaux boasts 2,902 square feet of living space, four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Buyers can add a 510-square-foot second-floor bonus room or bedroom. The Doyle has 3,763 square feet of living space, up to six bedrooms, up to three bathrooms and a three-car garage.
"Our build-on-your-lot program will allow home buyers to choose from many of our award-winning designs and enjoy the experience of working with a builder with over 30 years of industry leading experience," says Randy Dodson of David Weekley Homes.
He says the program gives buyers the ultimate amount of control.
"Our on-your-lot program in South Tampa builds on our reputation of providing a home that is second to none in quality and providing a home-buying experience that will make you happy to definitely recommend us to your friends and family," Dodson says.
David Weekley is not a new kid on the block. It has been around for 32 years and built more than 50,000 homes. The company builds in 17 U.S. markets. In the Tampa Bay area, David Weekley homes can be found in nine communities.

"Now, home buyers will not have to move out of the city to enjoy the experience of owning a David Weekley home," he says.
"And if finding property to build on has been an issue, we will also offer homes ready to purchase on properties we have pre-selected in some of the best neighborhoods in South Tampa," Dodson adds.
