'Avenue Q' debut at Straz Center
M.A.D Theatre presents the musical comedy "Avenue Q," debuting Thursday and running through Aug. 19 in Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center, 1010 N. MacInnes Place.
This comedy follows the life of a recent college grad who moves into a shabby New York apartment on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, this is not your normal neighborhood. The show is for mature audiences only.

Moroccan madness detailed in GIFF film
The Gasparilla International Film Festival's Global Lens Series presents "Pegasus," a film from Morocco, at 7 p.m. at the Tampa Museum of Art, 120 W. Gasparilla Plaza. In this psychological thriller, a psychiatrist is assigned to treat a traumatized pregnant woman. Her father, a tribal chief, had raised her to be the son his legacy demands.

Summer Safari Night features jungle jams

'Back to School Bash' at fairgrounds
All About Kids presents the 17th annual Back To School Bash at a new location, the Expo Hall at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. 301 N.

Tampa Theatre offers 'first true Hitchcock'
Witness the beginning of the Hitchcock legend when Tampa Theatre presents the 1927 thriller, "The Lodger," at 3 p.m. as part of its Summer Classics.
Though it was his third film, Alfred Hitchcock referred to "The Lodger" as the "first true Hitchcock film" because it was the first to contain many of what were to become his signature stylistic trademarks.

Madonna birthday bash set at Village
For the second year in a row, Timpano Italian Chophouse will be the venue for Madonna's Birthday Party from 7 to 11 p.m. at Hyde Park Village, 1621 W. Snow Ave.
