Apparently, a chance to reach the Stanley Cup finals is something to dye for.
Blue dye, that is. Thirty-six gallons, which will be deposited in Garrison Channel at 5 p.m. today to show support for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who face the Boston Bruins in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals tonight.
The team is asking fans to show up to Cotanchobee Park to watch Yacht Star Ships give the channel a Lightning hue.
The Florida Aquarium is a partner in the stunt to help raise awareness about the importance of the Tampa Bay area's aquatic ecosystems. The dye is not harmful to marine life and has been approved by the aquarium and Environmental Protection Commission, according to the team.
Cotanchobee Park is across Old Water Street from the Forum on Garrison Channel.
The game is sold out, but fans without tickets can stay after the channel coloring to watch on a big screen on the Forum's West Plaza.
Tonight's game begins at 8 and will be televised by Versus cable.
The Lightning face elimination, trailing the best-of-seven series three games to two. If Tampa Bay wins, a deciding Game 7 will be played Friday in Boston.
The series winner will face the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup finals.
