The Rays reinstated closer Troy Percival from the disabled list this morning. Percival, who had been sidelined since July 2 with a left hamstring strain, replaces Gary Glover on the roster.
Percival said he's not offering any absolute guarantees, but he feels "10 times better" than the last time he came off the DL after a hamstring problem earlier this year. The Rays' medical staff figured out that a nerve problem in Percival's back was actually causing most of his hamstring issues and they have begun to treat his back rather than his leg.
He's obviously anxious to get back and reassume ninth-inning duties, though it should be noted the Rays didn't blow a save in his absence.
As for Glover, there really was no other choice to clear a spot. He did some nice work here and there over the last two seasons, but the Rays weren't about to get rid of Jason Hammel to keep him. The Rays will place Glover on the 15-day disabled list.
