University of South Florida DE George Selvie and LB Brouce Mompremier, who were both injured at Florida International on Sept. 20, both practiced with the first team defense Monday.
Whether they'll play Saturday, however, against Syracuse depends who you ask.
USF coach Jim Leavitt said he "thinks we'll be back healthy," meaning Mompremier and Selvie will be in the starting lineup and play Saturday. USF defensive coordinator Wally Burnham, though, said he's preparing this week that he will not have Mompremier, Selvie or DT Terrell McClain available on Saturday.
Mompremier suffered a neck injury at FIU and just returned to conditioning drills at practice last week. Monday was the first day he worked with shoulder pads - but he still hasn't undergone any contact drills.
"He looked good," Leavitt said.
Mompremier must go through an entire week of practice and then be evaluated and cleared by USF's medical staff before he can play in a game. Mompremier has not been cleared yet, but technically could before Saturday's game.
"He hasn't hit anything yet," Burnham said. "He hasn't hit a dummy or a sled.
"When he has a shot on a running back coming downhill and face that challenge, that will be the question. I don't know how you find that out in practice when you don't let 'em hit."
Selvie, who suffered a sprained ankle, is more likely to play. He did not play at N.C. State and played sparingly against Pittsburgh. He went through all individual drills Monday, but was still limping noticeably.
