Morris Searching For Leaders Among Young Bucs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Raheem Morris says he is waiting on a few good men.

Tampa Bay's rookie head coach acknowledges the Buccaneers lost some key leaders when the team purged five veterans in February, including captain Derrick Brooks.

On Wednesday, Morris said he was pleased that several players appear to be stepping up into leadership roles, filling a huge void following the release of Brooks, Warrick Dunn, Ike Hilliard, Cato June and Joey Galloway.

Morris said the quarterback position, by its very nature, must play a key part in providing leadership. He indicated Luke McCown is making strides in that area, and Morris is also looking for some emerging leaders on a young defensive unit now guided by Jim Bates.

The Bucs will wrap up their first minicamp under Morris this morning, and he will be checking body language to get an early gauge on potential new leaders in Tampa Bay's locker room.
