Florida coach Urban Meyer said after Friday's practice that redshirt sophomore wide receiver Paul Wilson's career is over.
Wilson was part of the huge recruiting class from Lakeland three years ago that included offensive linemen Maurkice and Mike Pouncey, running back Chris Rainey and safety Ahmad Black _ all who have gone on to become stars.
"I was counting on him for special teams,'' Meyer said. "He's had some tough injuries.''
Wilson had a wrist problem and re-broke a foot that caused him to miss all but two games a year ago.
"The foot that re-broke, because of what our receivers are asked to do as far as planting and pushing off, he's been advised not to play football. We wish him all the best,'' Meyer said.
UF will apply for a medical hardship for Wilson, so the school can pay for his scholarship and it won't count against the NCAA's limit of 85.
"That's real tough on him because he wanted to play,'' Meyer said.
Mild concussion sidelines OL Patchan
Florida coach Urban Meyer said offensive lineman Matt Patchan, from Armwood High School in Seffner, has a minor concussion and will be on the sidelines on Friday.
"He should be back (Saturday),'' Meyer said after the Friday morning practice.
Meyer was asked about Patchan calling rookie Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin a "Bozo'' during UF's media day.
Kiffin made several comments in the offseason about various schools and accused Meyer of breaking recruiting rules, which he later apologized for after being reprimanded by the SEC.
"We don't need to be doing that,'' Meyer said of Patchan's comment. "We just need to worry about the Florida Gators.''
Meyer added with a smirk, "I know you want me to say something else.''
Keep in mind: Sept. 19. That's when Tennessee visits Gainesville.
