University of South Florida coach Jim Leavitt is excited about what certainly will be a new bowl experience for his team.
The Bulls (7-5) accepted an invitation to play in the International Bowl on Jan. 2 in Toronto, where they will face an opponent from the Mid-American Conference.
The game, which has a noon kickoff at the Rogers Centre, will be shown on ESPN2.
"I'm excited about Toronto,'' USF head coach Jim Leavitt said. "We've never been there. I'm excited for the kids. This is big stuff. We get to go and play indoors. I think it's exciting and pretty neat. Once we play this bowl, we will have experienced every bowl game the Big East offers except the BCS bowl. Hopefully that one is next.''
USF extended its bowl streak to five seasons, every year since joining the Big East Conference. The Bulls are 2-2 in bowl games, coming off a 41-14 win against Memphis in the 2008 St. Petersburg Bowl.
USF played in the 2005 Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, N.C., the 2006 Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., and the 2007 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.
Only six other schools have reached postseason bowls in each season they were members of a BCS conference: Florida, Florida State, Texas, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech, according to the USF news release.
USF, West Virginia and Rutgers are the only Big East schools to reach bowls each year since the league realigned in 2005.
