Reche Caldwell, a former standout at Jefferson High and Florida, could possibly sign with Buffalo after working out for the team today.
Buffalo is in need of a receiver after learning Steve Johnson is out indefinitely because of a rib injury he suffered on Sunday. Johnson, a second-year player, was expected to compete for the team's fifth receiver spot.
Caldwell worked out for the Bills on Tuesday and the coaching staff was impressed with his conditioning and pass-catching ability. Buffalo began its training camp last Saturday and Caldwell expects to hear something back from the team soon.
"He killed the conditioning drills," said Tony Fleming, Caldwell's agent. "He's on his way back to Tampa now, but we should know something later today."
In addition to Buffalo, Caldwell has also been contacted by Washington and Jacksonville, two teams in need of depth at receiver. Washington begins its training camp on Wednesday, while Jacksonville's starts on Sunday.
Caldwell, 30, did not play in the NFL after being cut by St. Louis prior to last season. His last NFL was in 2007 with Washington and he had 15 receptions for 141 yards as a backup.
His most productive season occurred in 2006 when Caldwell had 61 receptions for 760 yards and four touchdowns for New England.
