Evan Longoria trailed Derek Jeter by a mere 570 votes last week when the first round of American League All-Star Game vote totals were announced, but the Rays' third baseman has surged ahead in a week in which he didn't play a game at home.

Longoria leads all AL players with 1,036,071 votes, while Jeter, a nine-time All-Star, is second overall at 1,017,560, Major League Baseball announced today.

Longoria has more than twice as many votes as any other AL third baseman, with the Rangers' Michael Young currently second at 441,912.

Among other Rays, Jason Bartlett moved up from fourth to second behind Jeter among shortstops with 435,456 votes, and Carl Crawford stands fifth in the outfield with 439,870.

In-stadium voting continues through June 28, and online balloting at MLB.com runs through July 2. The All-Star teams will be unveiled July 5. The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 14 in St. Louis.
