Bucs Sign LB Crowell

TAMPA - It's been a busy day for the Bucs at the linebacker position. Not only did they take their first look at Jermaine Phillips as a weakside linebacker, they also signed free agent Angelo Crowell to play strongside linebacker.

The signing creates something of a logjam a the strongside spot, where Crowell will battle with Bucs holdovers Quincy Black and Adam Hayward for regular playing time.

Crowell missed all of the 2008 season after suffering a knee injury, but he had 126 tackles, two sacks and an interception while starting 16 games for the Buffalo Bills in 2007.

Crowell, who has started 41 of the last 43 games he has played in was considered one of the top linebackers in free agency. If he proves healthy he'll probably earn the starting strongside spot with the Bucs, who may now move Hayward to the weakside spot that appears to belong to Phillips, at least for the time being.
