The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today released wide receiver Anthony Mix after Mix was indicted by a Baldwin County, Ala., grand jury on a misdemeanor sex charge.
Bay Minette police Sgt. Lester Banfield said Tuesday the former Auburn player was charged with a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The indictment alleges that Mix, 25, had consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl in January in his hometown of Bay Minette, Ala.
Mix turned himself in at the Baldwin County Jail about 9 a.m. Wednesday and was released just before noon after posting $5,000 bail, Alabama television station WKRG-TV reported.
He played for Auburn from 2002-06 and has seen limited action with the Washington Redskins and New York Giants.
Mix signed with the Bucs during the offseason and never played for Tampa Bay. The team announced his release with a one-line statement that made no mention of his indictment.
