Florida's Meyer: No interest in Notre Dame job

Florida head coach Urban Meyer put an end to any rumors before they started on Monday -- or at least tried to. He said he is not interested in Notre Dame's head coaching job, or anywhere else.

"I'm ready to dispel it (the rumor),'' Meyer said. "I'm going to be the coach at Florida as long as they'll have me. So I want to make that clear."

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow said he expects Meyer to be the head coach at Florida for a long time and doesn't think there's any chance he will go to Notre Dame, should he be offered the job.

There has been much speculation nationally that Notre Dame is almost certainly going to fire Charlie Weis after the season ends, and Meyer invariably shoots to the top of the wish list when that job comes up. He turned down the Fighting Irish before they hired Weis.

"I don't think he will be at Notre Dame, I don't think that's anything he will do now,'' Tebow said on Monday.

Tebow said Meyer seems content where he is.

"I think he's enjoying being at head coach at the University of Florida and enjoying this senior class and being undefeated; we've won 21 in a row," Tebow said. "I don't think that's really anything on his mind. I think he'll be here for a while because he loves it here. He loves working for (athletic director Jeremy) Foley.

"He loves being here at the University of Florida. He loves his players, and I don't think he wants to go to a place where he has to start fresh and start new. I think he enjoys being here. It's the best place in football.''

Apparently Meyer's time with Tebow has influenced the quarterback. He said he's considering getting into coaching, as well. And even smiled at the thought of one day being UF's head coach.

"He actually always gives me a hard time about that, saying one day how I'm going to be in his seat and coaching here,'' Tebow said. "That's something that intrigues me. It's something that I would like to do. It's an opportunity where you can invest in young men, and one, give them your knowledge as a football coach and be able to ingrain that in them and also be able to ingrain being a man and what that's about.

"I like being able to correlate the two. That is intriguing for me. It's something that I'm not going to throw out because I think I'll have a lot of fun doing it, I think I'd enjoy it. That door will never be closed for me.''
