The Buccaneers announced today that they have signed quarterback Rudy Carpenter from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and wide receiver Terrence Nunn from the New England Patriots practice squad.
The team also placed quarterback Byron Leftwich on injured reserve with what was described as an "elbow ailment" and released cornerback Mike Mickens.
Leftwich started the first three games for the Bucs after beating out Luke McCown for the starting quarterback job during training camp.
Signed as a free agent from Pittsburgh, Leftwich completed 58-of-107 passes this season (54.2 percent) for 594 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions as the Bucs went 0-3 to open the season.
He was replaced in the starting lineup by Josh Johnson, who went 0-4 before being replaced by rookie Josh Freeman.
Carpenter, a rookie from Arizona State, joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent on May 1, before being signed to the practice squad.
In his four seasons at ASU, Carpenter completed 799 of 1,309 passes (61.0%) for 10,491 yards and 81 touchdowns.
Nunn, also a rookie, was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 11 out of Nebraska before joining the New England practice squad.
At Nebraska, Nunn played all four years and caught 136 passes for 1,762 yards and 11 touchdowns.
