TAMPA - As Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans can attest, losing stinks.
Middle linebacker Barrett Ruud searched for a polite way to describe his emotions as the Bucs' leading tackler discussed the impact of an 0-5 start.
"I've been miserable,'' Ruud said before Buc players began preparations for Sunday's matchup against Carolina, facing the possibility of the first NFL blackout in Tampa since Raymond James Stadium opened in 1998. "I've never gone through something like this. We've got to get a break or two and finish a game off.
"It's tough being 0-5. When you're losing games, you're down for the whole week. You get a chance to redeem yourself on Sunday and when you don't, it's another week of frustration.''
With the Bucs in the throes of a nine-game losing streak, Ruud isn't quite sure what to expect from Sunday's crowd.
"There's always a mix - there are always going to be fans that kind of quit on you, but there are others that stick with you,'' said the former Cornhusker standout. "I'm a fan, too. When Nebraska loses, I'm down. When they win, I'm up. Nobody wants to hear excuses. They want to see results and we do, too.
"It's with you all the time and honestly, it's with you a lot more than when you win. At least for me, the highs of winning don't equal the lows of losing.''
