Melanie Sinclair, a senior from Orlando who earned All-American and All-SEC status as a member of the University of Florida gymnastics team, was arrested Tuesday after police say she stored nine stolen guns, two computers and a safe in her apartment.
She has been suspended indefinitely from the team.
Sinclair has been charged with three felony criminal counts of burglary of an occupied dwelling unarmed, larceny theft of less than $5,000 and grand larceny of firearms.
A Gainesville police report says the items were recovered from Sinclair's apartment and have been identified as stolen.
Bud Leonard Williams, 21, was arrested Oct. 1 after carrying a loaded shotgun through a Gainesville apartment complex, police say. Police say Williams is Sinclair's boyfriend.
Sinclair's involvement in the case remains unknown, but police say Williams told Sinclair to lie about the guns to protect herself in a taped jail conversation he made to her on the phone.
Sinclair earned All-America honors nine times in her first three years on Florida's gymnastics team, including first-team recognition three straight years in her best event, the uneven bars. The Gators finished fourth in the NCAA championships in 2009 and 2008.
