Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik said Sunday he is responsible for making sure the team gets more out of the second round pick they got for defensive end Gaines Adams than they got out of Adams.
"I wish nothing but the best for Gaines Adams,'' Domink said moments before kickoff against the Carolina Panthers. "But if we don't feel like a player can do what we're looking for him to do, then we're going to move on and find another player.''
The Bucs traded Adams, taken fourth overall in the 2007 draft, to the Chicago Bears on Friday for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft. Dominki values that pick and said he has no intention of trading it.
"We're always going to search for ways to make this organization as good as it can be, as competitive as possible,'' Domink said. "We see that second-round selection as a very powerful selection.''
The decision to move Adams was based on the ability to get a second-round pick and the opportunity it creates to get a look at some other young players on the roster.
"We have some young players we want to see,'' Dominik said. "Micahel Bennett, who we just acquired from Seattle is one of them. Kyle Moore, who is a step away from being ready to go is another.''
Moore, a rookie, has been sidelined by a knee injury.
Dominik might make more moves, but diffused rumors suggesting wide receiver Michael Clayton asked to be traded earlier this week.
"I have no knowledge of that,'' he said.
