Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris was optimistic receiver Antonio Bryant might be ready to play against the New York Giants on Sunday.
Bryant was limited in Wednesday's practice because of a bone bruise in his knee.
"Obviously, you know that (Bryant) wants to play," Morris said. "I've got a great feeling about it. I'm sure he does, as well. I'm going to believe in A.B. and what he can do, and we'll try to get him out there as quickly as we can and as quickly as he can go."
Although Morris was optimistic about Bryant's return, he is concerned about three other players. Defensive tackle Roy Miller (ankle), center Jeff Faine (triceps) and receiver Maurice Stovall (knee) did not participate in practice.
Faine was hurt Tampa Bay's season opener against Dallas and did not play last week against Buffalo. Stovall and Miller played well in the loss to the Bills. Stovall had three receptions for 80 yards and Miller three tackles, one sack and a quarterback hurry in Tampa Bay's loss.
Morris also explained why Tampa Bay elected to place safety Jermaine Phillips on injured reserved with a broken left thumb.
"That injury is more severe than we originally thought," Morris said. "He has a significant fracture that is going to require a complex surgery to his hand to his thumb. That's tough ... He'll be missed."
Will Allen will start at safety with Sabby Piscitelli, Morris said.
