Defender Jay Needham scored twice to lead the Austin Aztex to a 4-2 victory against the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies in a USSF Division II game Saturday night.
The Aztex (12-2-5), who lead the USL Conference, scored twice in the first 18 minutes before the Rowdies (6-8-6) rallied with two goals in a five-minute stretch. Austin scored twice more in the first half for a 4-2 halftime lead.
Needham scored in the 16th minute off a corner kick, and two minutes later Lance Watson scored for the Aztex.
Tampa Bay's Aaron King was brought down by Kevin Sakuda as he ran in the box, and a penalty kick was awarded. Ricardo Sanchez converted in the 21st minute.
Four minutes later, Long Tan scored for the Rowdies after Sanchez slipped him a pass through the Aztex defense.
Austin put the game away with goals by Needham and Max Griffin during first-half injury time.
