Bucs live camp report: Thursday morning

Tampa Tribune beat writer Roy Cummings offers his real-time observations from the Buccaneers training camp at One Buc Place:

10:35 a.m. - The clouds are rolling in but the Bucs have already rolled out to the field, where they started the day with an on-side kick drill.

10:45 a.m. - The rain has started to fall, but the players are only stretching at this point so it's not like it's having much of an effect.

10:50 a.m. - This won't come as much of a surprise to loyal readers, but it's our duty to tell you anyway: Rookie DT Brian Price is not working out today. Neither is CB Myron Lewis.

10:55 a.m. - So far it's just a heavy rain, but I get the feeling the weather is eventually going to force cancellation of this workout.

11:05 a.m. -OK, so maybe I was wrong about the weather. It's clearing up a bit and the boys are starting to get into some 11-on-11 work.

11:09 a.m. Newcomer Vince Anderson is making a good first impression. He's already jumped in to break up a pass in the day's first 11-on-11 drill.

11:15 a.m.D-line coach Todd Wash is giving some individual attention to DTs Roy Miller and Gerald McCoy. While the rest of the team is doing some 11-on-11 work, Wash is giving Miller and McCoy some tips on how to use their hands.

11:17 a.m. The defense continues to shine early on here as Geno Hayes jumped a route and picked off a Josh Freeman pass intended for Cadillac Williams.

11:20 a.m. - Add CB Aqib Talib and MLB Barrett Ruud to the list of players missing this morning's workout. WR Sammie Stroughter may not be long for this practice either. He just turned an ankle, though he's trying to jog it off.

11:36 a.m. - The Bucs are working on that coming-out drill again where they simulate being backed up at their own goal line. Seems like they've working on that a lot this training camp.

11:38 a.m. - QB Josh Johnson and the rest of the second-teamers are getting a lot of the work in this practice. Clearly they are getting ready for the Miami game.

11:41 a.m. - RB Carlos Brown, whom the Bucs signed just yesterday, is getting a lot of reps today. He'll probably get a chance to show what he's got in the preseason opener as well.

11:44 a.m. - You haven't heard a lot about him yet but DE Brandon Gilbeaux is proving to be quite a handful for the offensive linemen.

11:45 a.m. - Looks like the Bucs are calling it quits early.
