GAINESVILLE -- Former Florida football player Wondy Pierre-Louis pled guilty to two counts of criminal mischief on Wednesday and was given a year's probation.
The Gainesville state attorney's office has filed two counts of criminal mischief filed against Pierre-Louis for a mid-January incident involving his girlfriend. The first count filed was for damaging a door and the other for damage done to the alleged victim's cell phone.
Pierre-Louis, free on $40,000 bond until Wednesday's plea arrangement, was arrested on Jan. 17 and charged with domestic battery by strangulation. The initial arrest report alleged that Starlett Lazenberry, his girlfriend, told police Pierre-Louis had choked her. But she disputed the police report's accuracy at her first court appearance and also appeared Wednesday on Pierre-Louis's behalf.
A warrant was issued for Pierre-Louis after police alleged he kicked in Lazenberry's door, found someone else in the apartment and attempted to strangle her, holding her against her will and not allow her to seek help.
He was initially facing five charges: domestic battery by strangulation, burglary of an occupied dwelling unarmed, domestic battery, kidnapping and false imprisonment and obstruction of justice/tampering with a witness.
Pierre-Louis, best known for recovering a muffed kick for a touchdown that keyed UF's SEC title win against Arkansas on the way to the 2006 national title, completed his senior season in 2009.
