USF's Kiefer signs four-year extension

USF men's soccer coach George Kiefer, who has led the Bulls to a 93-47-16 record in eight seasons, has signed a four-year contract extension that runs through Dec. 31, 2013.

Kiefer agreed to the $445,000 deal in December.

In the final season of his current contract, which pays Kiefer $90,000, USF finished 14-4-3 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

"George has done a terrific job in building one of the premier men's soccer programs in the Big East and country,'' USF athletic director Doug Woolard said in a statement.

As part of the contract released to the Tribune on Tuesday, Kiefer can earn a $25,000 bonus by leading USF to a national championship, $15,000 for a final four appearance, and $10,000 for a berth in the elite eight. If Kiefer opts to leave for another coaching job, he has a buyout clause of at least $30,000 unless his departure comes in the final year of the contract, when he can leave without paying a financial penalty to USF.
