TAMPA - As expected, Dominique Jones won't be coming back to USF for his senior season.
Since Jones told The Tribune on April 11 that he was leaving school to enter the draft, many fans on message boards voiced opinions that Jones made the wrong decision.
Jones read many of those comments, and at different moments contemplated returning to school before Saturday's deadline to pull his name from the draft.
Then his competitive nature took over like it does on the court.
"I've got a lot of motivation from everybody saying that I shouldn't go and that I'm going to be a second-rounder," Jones said Friday afternoon after working out for the Celtics.
"I actually thought about coming back to school, but after I read all that, I'm like, 'OK, that's a new challenge for me.' Coming back to school wasn't going to be a challenge."
Jones said he has signed with agent Michael Hodges and is ready to prove any doubters wrong.
"I'm 100 percent in the draft," Jones said.
The Celtics were the first NBA team Jones has worked out for, but he is going to Washington and San Antonio next week for team workouts.
Jones said Friday's workout for the Celtics was a good start.
"It was a good one to get those jitters out and things like that," he said. "I'm basically on the road for a month straight."
