Report: Bucs blocked again in search for offensive coordinator

According to a report, the Packers have denied a request by the Bucs to speak with tight ends coach Ben McAdoo about running Tampa Bay's offense.

Two weeks before the NFL draft combine begins, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have a new head coach, but Greg Schiano still has no one signed to his coaching staff.

A day after University of Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn turned down the same role on the Bucs, according to the Gainesville Sun, the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported Tuesday on Twitter that the Green Bay Packers have denied a request by the Bucs to speak with tight ends coach Ben McAdoo about running Tampa Bay's offense.

Earlier, the Bucs also were were denied permission to meet with Arizona Cardinals wide receivers coach John McNulty - now Arizona's quarterback coach - about the offensive coordinator job.

Tampa Bay will host a regional draft combine at One Buc Place on Feb. 18, one of eight new regional workouts around the country, in preparation for the full-blown NFL draft combine Feb. 23-28 in Indianapolis.

Tampa Bay has the fifth overall pick in this year's draft after going 4-12 last season.

The Packers, who lost offensive coordinator Joe Philbin when he became the new head coach in Miami, earlier blocked Philbin from interviewing McAdoo for the Dolphins' offensive coordinator job.

Meanwhile, FOXSports.com cited an unnamed source Tuesday saying that Ron Turner and Bill Lazor are among the candidates being considered at offensive coordinator.

FOXSports.com also is reporting that Schiano also will add three of his former assistants at Rutgers — Bob Fraser (linebackers), Brian Angelichio (tight ends) and Jeff Haley (assistant defensive backs coach) — to the Bucs staff.

Turner was the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator from 2005 to 2009 and spent the past two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts as first the wide receivers coach and then quarterbacks coach in 2011.

Lazor is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Virginia. He spent eight years as an NFL assistant, most recently coaching quarterbacks for Seattle (2008-2009) and Washington (2006-2007).
