TAMPA – University of Illinois receiver Trulon Henry, the older brother of Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Arrelious Benn, will miss the rest of the season after he was shot in the hand at an off-campus party early Sunday, Illinois coach Ron Zook told reporters Sunday.
Henry was shot while trying to play peacemaker during what was described as an increasingly unruly scene, Zook said. Henry was attempting to give a ride home to several Illini teammates when the skirmish escalated into gunfire.
"I spoke with Trulon. He called me around 4:30 or 5 a.m. and apologized," Zook was quoted as saying. "He said all he was trying to do was help. He's a team leader, he's trying to help, and he ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Attempts to reach Benn late Sunday were unsuccessful.
Benn, a former Illini receiver, played in the Bucs' 37-9 loss to the Texans on Sunday and caught two passe for 47 yards. It is not certain whether he knew of the situation with his brother prior to kickoff.
