As Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman made his way through the line, signing autographs after training camp practice Wednesday, he came across Cat Ceccarelli, a 27-year-old admirer from Spring Hill.
"Free, will you marry me?’’ was written on the front of Ceccarelli’s shirt, while the back was inscribed with the words "Mrs. Freeman’’ and the No. 5.
Freeman stopped to chat with his ardent fan for a moment before moving on.
"He’s chiseled,’’ Ceccarelli said. "No matter what, he’s OK.’’
And what was Freeman’s response to her marriage proposal?
"He said he’s got to think about it,’’ she said.
Coach Greg Schiano challenged the offense during the fifth day of camp workouts, adding third down and two-minute drills to the package of plays.
The results were a mixed bag.
Rookie RB Doug Martin fumbled and Freeman threw an interception, but the unit finished strong when Freeman found Mike Williams in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown in the final 11-on-11.
Life on the see-saw
Since G Davin Joseph was chosen in the first round of the 2006 draft, the Bucs have hired two head coaches, won an NFC South title and suffered through three seasons with four or fewer wins.
"I've seen a lot of changes here,'' Joseph said, "but this one has been really exciting to see — the organization's commitment to football and the coach's commitment to detail.''
DT Gary Gibson and CB Derrick Roberson returned to the practice field, but first-year T Mike Ingersoll went down late with a leg injury and was carted off. DE Michael Bennett left the field near the end of practice, but Schiano indicated it likely was a heat-related problem.
The Bucs will host athletes from Special Olympics Florida during today's morning practice. … Players gathered in a circle early in Wednesday's session as coaches instituted a modified version of the Oklahoma drill, pitting a runner and a blocker against a defender. … Former Bucs CB Ricky Reynolds attended Wednesday's practice and praised Schiano's focus on "the little things that are usually the difference between making a play and not making the play.''
