The University of South Florida will have one less defensive lineman when the No. 21 Bulls host No. 8 Cincinnati and its quick-strike offense Thursday.
Redshirt freshman NT Cory Grissom is out for the season with a stress fracture in his left foot, Coach Jim Leavitt said.
"It looks like it's going to be extended," Leavitt said. "He hurt his foot in the Syracuse game; that's when he really hurt it. We may have to have surgery on it. ... It's tough. He's played a lot of football.
Grissom, who backed up Terrell McClain, had five tackles. Junior Leslie Stirrups will replace Grissom in USF's front four rotation.
In other injury news, Leavitt said RB Lindsey Lamar (hip) and SS Jerrell Young (arm) will play, but RB Aston Samuels (stomach) will not.
IT'S PERSONAL: Not toeing the company line of "It's just another game," DE George Selvie has a little extra incentive for Thursday night's ESPN game.
Selvie, a two-time All-American, has lost all three meetings in which he's played against the Bearcats.
"It is kind of personal," he said. "I never beat Cincinnati. I was here (redshirting) when we beat Cincinnati (in 2005), but I never had the chance to actually beat them myself while playing. ... This is a real big game for me and I want to win this one."
ODDS AND ENDS: USF's Oct. 24 game at Pittsburgh will kick off at noon and be shown on the Big East Network and ESPN Regional. ... Senior CB Jerome Murphy will wear Keeley Dorsey's No. 10 jersey this week.
