1. The Stanford Band
(California 25, Stanford 20, Nov. 20, 1982)
The Stanford band, assuming the game was over even as the ensuing kickoff is punched downfield with four seconds remaining, wanders into the end zone and onto the field for its postgame concert. After five frantic laterals, California's Kevin Moen winds up with the ball and flattens Stanford trombone player Gary Tyrrell on his way into the end zone.
2. Hail Flutie
(Boston College 47, Miami 45, Nov. 23, 1984)
With six seconds remaining, Boston College drove to the UM 48-yard line. Eagles QB Doug Flutie drifted right, set his feet and delivered a field-length Hail Mary pass. It floated over three UM defensive backs and into the arms of BC receiver Gerard Phelan in the end zone.
3. Upon Further Review
(Michigan State 37, Wisconsin 31, Oct. 22, 2011)
With four seconds remaining, from the Wisconsin 44-yard line, Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins rolled right and tossed it toward the end zone. In a scrum, the ball deflected off the facemask of WR B.J. Cunningham and back to Keith Nichol, who was outside the end zone and fought past two Wisconsin defenders. Nichol was ruled short, but instant replay overturned the call. Michigan State had a victory for the ages.
4. Stewart to Westbrook
(Colorado 27, Michigan 26, Sept. 24, 1994)
As the clock hit 0:00, Colorado QB Kordell Stewart, stepping up to his 27-yard-line, launched a pass that sailed 73 yards through the air. It reached a confluence of Michigan defenders and Colorado receivers. It was tipped up … and into the onrushing arms of Colorado's Michael Westbrook, who trailed the play by a stride and tumbled in with a 64-yard score.
5. The Bluegrass Miracle
(LSU 33, Kentucky 30, Nov. 9, 2002)
With two seconds remaining and LSU at its 25-yard line, Kentucky players dumped Gatorade on top of Wildcats coach Guy Morriss. LSU QB Marcus Randall, trailing by three points, tossed his desperation pass some 60 yards in the air. It was tipped by a free safety, over the head of a linebacker, tipped again by a cornerback … and into the hands of onrushing LSU WR Devery Henderson, who was in a dead sprint toward the end zone. Henderson, in fact, ran past a UK fan who was dancing in celebration.
