The Florida Gators held a celebration Sunday that made for a perfect reason to celebrate.
The afternoon gathering at Florida Field was scheduled to honor the Gators' national championship, earned Thursday night with a 24-14 victory against Oklahoma. And a fine party it was.
It was so much fun, quarterback Tim Tebow announced he wants to do it again next year.
To end the hourlong celebration in front of an announced crowd of 42,000, Tebow announced his intention to return for his senior season rather than make himself eligible for this spring's NFL draft.
"It was tough," Tebow said of the decision, "because some of that stuff is tempting at the next level and everything that goes along with it, especially ending on a great note ending with the national championship and moving on from there. I love these guys and Coach Urban Meyer and this program too much and I feel we can still end on a bang next year."
Tebow's decision almost assuredly will mean the Gators will carry the preseason No. 1 ranking into their 2009 schedule. If that means carrying a bull's-eye, that's good with Tebow.
"We always have a bull's-eye at Florida," he said. "That's no different, whether we're ranked 20th or No. 1; It doesn't matter. Every team will be coming trying to play their best versus us and we expect that. That's every year."
