GAINESVILLE - The cost for Florida to send two extra airplanes to Kentucky for the Gators' 41-7 win last weekend had a minimal impact on its budget - at a cost of $4,055 for the trip to Lexington and back.
UF normally charters a plane to carry the entire team. But illness of several players and fear of a flu bug spreading to the rest of the team resulted in the Gators isolating some of them, including star QB Tim Tebow.
The cost was kept to a minimum, however, because the University Athletic Association owns and operates the two extra planes used - a King Air and Citation. The only extra expense was for fuel.
The money came out of the UAA's budget and did not involve any use of tax dollars or school funds. The total football team travel budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year is $871,000.
