Florida senior quarterback John Brantley is making progress toward a potential return against Georgia on Oct. 29 but will not practice this week, coach Will Muschamp said.
Brantley continues to recover from an ankle injury he suffered Oct. 1 against Alabama. He is expected to do some moving and throwing this week and could return to practice Monday, Muschamp said.
The biggest problem facing Brantley has been a lack of lateral mobility, and the team has opted to keep him off the ankle as much as possible. But Muschamp said Brantley is no longer on crutches and could test the ankle this week.
"John has been living in the training room the past three weeks,"
Muschamp said. "There is nobody working harder, I can tell you that."
Freshman quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel will continue to split practice repetitions until Brantley returns.
MUSCHAMP APOLOGIZES: Muschamp issued an apology for his furious, curse-laden tirade at an official that was caught by ESPN cameras and spread across the Internet.
"That's not something that's going to be tolerated at the University of Florida," Muschamp said.
The outburst occurred Saturday against Auburn after senior running back Chris Rainey muffed a punt on a play Muschamp apparently thought deserved a penalty call.
Muschamp was he was sorry for his language, but added that he would not change his general on-field demeanor.
"It's hard when you have a 6- and 10-year-old at home and you have to explain what you said," Muschamp said. "That's not good, and that's not how we're going to run our program."
INJURY UPDATE: Junior cornerback Jeremy Brown, who has missed every game this season with a knee injury, will try to practice this week.
