Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp reached into his NFL background to find a new offensive line coach, naming Tim Davis to the position after Davis served a year at Utah in the same role.
Muschamp and Davis worked together with the Miami Dolphins in 2005.
Davis replaces Frank Verducci, a longtime NFL assistant who left the UF staff to pursue other interests. Verducci has not spent more than two years at any coaching spot since 1998.
Davis was on the USC staff that won national titles in 2003 and 2004. He was the line coach and running game coordinator at Minnesota before going to Utah.
North Texas coach Dan McCarney, a former assistant at Florida and South Florida, was hospitalized with an unspecified medical problem. Athletic director Rick Villarreal said McCarney was taken to a hospital Sunday after experiencing what he called “medical difficulties.” McCarney, 58, remained under observation Monday.
