Countryside 27, Boca Ciega 20

The Cougars led 13-0 halfway through the first quarter, but the Pirates would not go away easy. Quarterback Genard Sims capped an 87-yard Pirates drive with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Sherrod Clinton to narrow the slim Countryside's lead to 13-7. From there, the it was a dogfight.

The scoring seesawed until an unlucky twist of fate for Boca Ciega. With 1:37 left in the third quarter and the Cougars ahead 27-20, Pirates QB Orhian Johnson appeared to injure his back on a play. He remained on the field for several minutes before he was helped off. Johnson, who'd been a key playmaker all night, stayed on the sidelines for the remainder of the game.

Countryside defense hauled in three interceptions against Boca.

'It was absolutely huge,' Countryside coach John Davis said of his defense's performance. 'To go against Orhian Johnson and the speed that Boca Ciega has ... when I saw them warming up tonight, their film doesn't do them justice. They're a lot bigger than I thought. We look awfully small.'
