TAMPA -- Gaither's defense limited Durant's offense to seven first downs and 166 yards after the first quarter for an easy 27-7 victory.
In the first quarter, Durant drove 80 yards for the first score. Quarterback Je'Twan Smith walked into the end zone for a 7-0 lead.
After being down 7-0, Gaither scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter for the halftime lead. The first points for Gaither came when fullback Jordan Cooks rushed up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown.
Gaither quarterback Kamren Hawkins threw a slant pass to wide receiver Mitch McNall for a 44-yard gain. The next two plays saw Hawkins throw to the inside edge of the end zone, but both attempts came up incomplete. After a 15-yard run by running back Jarvis Giles, Hawkins again threw a pass to the inside edge of the end zone, connecting with wide receiver Dylan Fisher for the go-ahead score.
Gaither would score again on a 5-yard pass from Hawkins to wide receiver Justin Lattimore.
"We saw how they were playing the coverage," said Gaither coach Mark Kantor. "That play was there to work and we just had to execute it."
Cowboys running back Carey White put the game out of reach, rushing for a 35-yard touchdown in the third quarter for the 27-7 final.
