Giddins To Play In All-American Bowl
Armwood rising senior defensive lineman Ryne Giddins confirmed Wednesday that he has accepted an invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the country's premier high school all-star football game.
It is the third consecutive year Armwood has had a player selected for the prestigious event, which is scheduled for Jan. 3 at the Alamodome in San Antonio and will air live on NBC.
"It felt like I hit Lotto, though, I've never hit that before. It was a feeling like I've never felt," Giddins said of when bowl officials extended the invitation. "It was exciting. I'm very happy."
Giddins, a Tampa Tribune All-Hillsborough County first-team selection as a junior after setting a school record with 21 sacks, previously had pledged to play in the Under Armour All-America Game but officially withdrew from that game earlier this week.
Giddins is the third local player to accept an invitation to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, joining Plant teammates Aaron Murray and Orson Charles.
Giddins, who has more than 20 Division I scholarship offers, many from some of the nation's top programs, has not yet committed to a college. He said Wednesday he has given some thought to announcing his decision during the game, which has become somewhat of a tradition over the years for many uncommitted players to do.
"If I don't do it then, I'll do it at the graduation party I'm having," said Giddins, adding he won't make a decision until after his senior football season is complete. "I'll think about that. It's very exciting. They sit down, got their hats up there, the top schools, and tell you which ones they don't want and which one they do. I'll do that. It sounds like fun."
