PALMETTO ... 24 JESUIT ... 3
THE DIFFERENCE: You would think it would have been Palmetto's star wide receiver Damian Copeland. He played well, but it was running back Marva Carley who, behind great offensive line play, shredded Jesuit's defense by pounding it on the ground for 231 yards and a touchdown.
GAME NOTES: Palmetto looked to be forcing the pass for the first few series, but when it went to the running game, Jesuit (4-3) could not consistently stop it. ... Palmetto (6-1) played stifling defense allowing only an early field goal. With several sacks, fumble recoveries and a late interception, Palmetto would allow the nothing else. ... Copeland was not thrown to as much as usual, but was still effective on the receiving end of a 28-yard strike in the end zone from quarterback Ethan Gilbert. ... Jesuit's offense sputtered but wide receiver Erick McGriff had a solid game with over 100 receiving yards. ... Jesuit quarterback Bobby Eveld couldn't finish the last series after hurting the thumb on his throwing hand.
STAT OF THE GAME: Carley's big second-half runs. His big run plays of 23, 33 and 17 yards were backbreakers for Jesuit.
QUOTE OF THE GAME: "They have a great O-line. They didn't make many mistakes and executed great. They played great defense tonight. They stopped us then when they needed to stop us and we made some key mistakes." - Jesuit coach Joe Ross
