Armwood senior Dykerius Cross was arrested Tuesday on a felony count of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrest report.
Cross, 18, was being held late Tuesday in the Orient Road Jail on $8,000 bond. He was a starting wide receiver for the Hawks, but he had been removed from the program before the arrest, according to Armwood coach Sean Callahan. Callahan said the move was made so Cross could get his personal affairs in order.
It is the second arrest for Cross in the last month. On Aug. 24, Cross was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of trespassing in an unoccupied structure or conveyance.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department spokesperson J.D. Callaway said at the time of the first arrest that the misdemeanor charge stemmed from Cross climbing through an unlocked window into a vacant house at 721 Star Pointe Drive in Seffner and twice being found sleeping on the floor. On the first occasion, Cross was asked to leave and complied, but he later returned, at which time he was taken into custody. Cross told the arresting deputies he was homeless and was only trying to get out of the rain, Callaway said.
Callahan said it was his understanding that Cross' latest arrest stemmed from the same circumstances as the first. Details from the HCSO regarding the second arrest were not available.
