Baseball: Alonso Gets Back On Track

»  Comments | Post a Comment

After losing two of its last three games, Alonso's baseball team needed a big win to get back on track.

The Ravens got one Wednesday night.

Senior right-hander Ray Delphey struck out eight in five strong innings and junior Thomas Dorminy went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to power the Ravens to a 6-2 victory against Brandon in a non-district matchup of two of Hillsborough County's top teams at Don Powell Field.

Delphey shook off a rough first inning in which he allowed a run on two hits and two walks to turn in another quality start. He scattered two hits through his final four innings and allowed only two runners to reach scoring position during that time.

"I was a little shaky in the first inning. It took awhile for me to get going," Delphey said. "But I had the offense and defense behind me, and that helped a lot. I have to give it up for my team. They hit the ball and did what they had to do."

Dorminy tied the game at 1 with a solo homer to right in the second, and he essentially iced the game with a two-run double to left-center in the fifth that put Alonso (12-2) ahead 5-1.

Tito Martinez had three hits and scored once, Tyler Ding had two hits, an RBI and scored twice, and Casey Smit doubled twice and added an RBI for the Ravens.

Adam Sass had three of the six hits by Brandon (11-4) and brought home both of the Eagles' runs with RBI singles in the first and seventh innings.
