Last season, Palm Harbor University's Matt Cote went to the state tournament alone. This year he wants his teammates with him.
The Hurricanes took the first step toward that goal by winning the boys Class 2A-District 12 golf tournament Tuesday at Fox Hollow Golf Club.
Cote led the way by taking medalist honors with a 2-over-par 73 in windy conditions. Palm Harbor finished with a 315 team score.
"It was definitely windy out there," Cote said. "The back nine really picked up the wind. It definitely helped that I knew how to play this course in the wind."
Cote's father, Matthew, is the head pro at Fox Hollow and it is the Hurricanes' home course.
Joining Palm Harbor at next week's regional tournament at Summerfield Crossings in Riverview will be East Lake (326) and Dunedin (327).
Individuals not on an advancing team who qualified are Tyler White of Tarpon Springs, Matt Simpson of Clearwater and Austin Padova of Ridgewood.
